Colt Starting - Quarter Horse Mare "Dancing" [Slideshow]
Meet Dancing, a charming 3-year-old Quater Horse Mare. She will be with me for 1 month for Pre - Saddle Training. Dancing arrived last Saturday and I played with her 4 times since. She is very confident, curious, smart and people oriented and she really enjoys to do stuff.
She will learn the 7 games on the ground, accept the cinch and the saddle, and how to become a good and thinking partner for her future as a riding horse. I will as well teach her how to pony and take her with me on trail rides to explore the forest.
Enjoy the first pictures of this pretty lady! This was our 2. session.
Dancing is very friendly and people oriented.
Porcupine Game: Yielding the hind quaters
Porcupine on the halter: learning to be soft - this is very important for any horse to learn and accept as it will influence the quality of direction and stopping.
The first two sessions were all about exploring the arena and all the things that are in it. She learnt the Touch it pattern to establish first communication and direction as well as encouraging her curiosity.
No Problem for Dancing!!! She has so much confidence in humans and their things.
Even throwing the ball off the other side didn't bother her!
Oh wait: What was that?
Check the other side: No problem!
Throwing the ball off on the left: No problem! Interested and connected, but confidents and unconcerned
Touch the tarp. She knew that one already. Very interesting and worth to explore!
Lets put some poles in her way: She looked once and then she did it perfectly - like a Dancing Queen.
Some fun in between - eating the stick
Touch the barrel
Put the feet on the see-saw. She didn't bother that the thing was moving under her feet. In her mind everything is simply interesting and fun.
